Maths is taught daily and discretely. Children develop skills in arithmetic, written calculations and apply their knowledge to solve mathematical problems.
They are encouraged to explain how they worked it out and make explicit links with other aspects of maths which they have learnt.
In Years 1-3 lessons are taught in a whole class setting with differentiated activities to extend and support pupils. Reception and Year 1 follow the Maths Mastery programme.
In Year 4 maths is set within year groups in order to maximise learning opportunities for all pupils. In Years 5 and Year 6, each year group is split into three classes to accelerate learning for those more able pupils, while ensuring that every pupil has a solid understanding of the primary maths curriculum before heading to secondary school.
